Marbury NYC presents Argentum, curated by Lauren Amalia Redding, an exhibition of contemporary silverpoint drawings. A technique with ancient origins that came to prominence in the Renaissance with practitioners such as Leonardo da Vinci and Albrecht Durer, it is a drawing method that uses a delicate silver wire to make marks which then transform through tarnish over time. As a medium it lends itself to both the ethereal and the dynamic, as the subtlest of possible tones assert their presence while silver's reflective properties are, sometimes only temporarily, at play with the pictorial depiction of light and shadow. This exhibition features over twenty artists working in and exploring this versatile, sometimes elusive medium.
